As the new year approaches, many of our Great Toscana Members might be wondering what their fitness goals will be for the upcoming year. Many will end the year with their goals met and looking for new milestones to reach. If improving overall strength, flexibility, coordination, and balance are targets, Reformer Pilates is the perfect class to consider. These fitness elements lead to daily life improvements like better posture, gracefulness, efficient movement, and for many relief from pain associated with physical imbalances such as back pain. When we talk about strength building and Pilates, the Pilates power house muscles, the muscles of the core paramount. Flat abs, strong backs, toned buttock and thighs are all results of the emphasis. Other equipment and Pilates mat exercises do those too, but the reformer creates a unique and varied exercise environment.
The reformer is large enough to accommodate full – range motion which is wonderful for increasing flexibility while building strength. It seems to invite length we want to create in the body. And it trains the body to sustain that length. Pushing and pulling with legs and arms against the resistance of springs, carriage, and body weight is generally strength building. The exercises provide enough resistance and movement variety to help build strong bones. And there is a special feature: eccentric muscle contractions. This is when a muscle lengthens as it resists a force. The reformer is a set-up for eccentric contraction. That is one of the keys to achieving the long, strong muscles with bulk that Pilates is known for.
The Toscana Sports Club is proud to announce the addition of 2 new reformers in the Sports Club Pilates Studio. This brings the total to four Reformers for Toscana Members. With the recent increase in demand for Benna Miller’s “ Reformer 4 “ classes on Wednesdays at 3:00 pm, the Sports Club has added an additional Reformer 4 class on Thursdays at 9:00 am, beginning in December 2011. Coming in January, 2012 another class will be offered on Mondays at 9:00 am.
A new Pilates Instructor will be joining the Toscana Dedicated Fitness Team soon offering more classes options for Toscana Members. Prices for these classes are $35.00 each for a class of 4 or $ 45.00 f or a class of 3. Classes will not be held with less than 3 Members. What a way to have a semi-private class! Sign up for these classes early is recommended as they tend to fill up fast.
